28 July 2022, Sydney, Australia - In November 2022, Genesis Motors Australia will partner the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) as it presents Do Ho Suh, a major new survey by the internationally renowned artist. This is the first solo exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere of the South Korean-born, London-based artist’s work, and the first time that the luxury car brand has collaborated with Australia’s leading contemporary art museum.
Do Ho Suh is known for his large-scale sculptures and architectural installations, which address the often-complex relationships between the body, memory and space. The exhibition will present emblematic works across a wide range of media that include installations, sculptures, drawings, printmaking, models, and video works. A ‘headliner’ will be the inaugural presentation of Do Ho Suh’s extraordinary Rubbing/Loving Project: Seoul Home, an ambitious artwork in which the artist has rendered the exterior of his parents’ home in Seoul through a series of paper rubbings, reconstructed at full scale in the MCA’s largest gallery.
MCA Director, Suzanne Cotter said, “The MCA is immensely excited by this new partnership with Genesis, with whom we share a deep and sustained commitment to the importance of art and artists in society, and to a sustainable world for future generations.”
The multi-year MCA partnership is the latest chapter in the Genesis Motors’ longstanding global involvement with the arts; a commitment that stems from the brand’s belief that inspiration is the greatest luxury of all. All around the world, Genesis continues to deliver unparalleled art and cultural experiences for its luxury owners, driven by its passion to serve the community.
In addition to its collaboration with the MCA, Genesis has also forged an alliance with the Victorian State Ballet, a partnership built around shared values of creativity and innovation that began in 2021 and will run until 2023. Last month, Genesis debuted as the car partner for the Sydney Film Festival, a showcase of the of world’s best new films across twelve days and nights of inspiring and entertaining premieres, talks and parties.
Says Connal Yan, Head of Genesis Motors Australia, “Genesis is proud to partner with the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) and honoured to present Do Ho Suh as part of its Sydney International Art Series. The exhibition speaks to our shared Korean heritage and connections. Mr Suh’s brother, brilliant architect Eulho Suh, has designed our Genesis Studios around the world, including here in Sydney.
“A passion for art and design sits at the heart of the Genesis brand. We are committed to supporting the arts in Australia, and to sharing truly inspirational experiences with our customers.”
