MARKHAM, ON., Jan. 11, 2023 – Genesis Motors Canada is pleased to announce the integration of the new Digital Key for 2024 models, starting with the new enhanced 2024 G70 sport sedan. The Digital Key1 allows the owner to lock, unlock and start their Genesis vehicle using a compatible smartphone or smartwatch. This technology also allows the main user to share access to a Digital Key with up to three users, wherever they may be.
Collaboration with smartphone companies has allowed a wider variety of iOS and Android phone users to gain digital access to their Genesis via the Digital Key convenience feature. Using Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology, Digital Key allows customers to safely operate a Genesis vehicle without requiring a traditional key. After installing the Digital Key, users can unlock their vehicle by simply holding their device against the driver door handle without even opening the app. Once inside, the device simply needs to be placed in the wireless charging tray. Push the Start button and the vehicle is ready to go.
Although two traditional proximity keys remain standard on all Genesis vehicles, there’s no need to carry a key fob once the Digital Key is activated. Owners of Genesis models compatible with Digital Key can also purchase an NFC Card Key that can be used when valeting the vehicle or having the vehicle serviced.
Another great feature of Digital Key is the ability to enable vehicle operating access to family or friends at any time. The key can be used with compatible Apple, Samsung, and Google devices using text/SMS or a messaging app to share the key. Up to three keys can be shared simultaneously, and all users can set up their own presets for driver-seat and mirror position, climate, audio preferences and more. The primary user can control when a shared key can be used and can end a shared key’s capability at any time.
“Digital Key demonstrates the leading role Genesis is taking in creating a frictionless experience for its guests,” says Aryan Habib, manager of connected vehicles and telematics at Genesis Motors Canada. “Through active collaboration with our partners in the smartphone industry, we will continue to enhance customer experience and car connectivity.”
Digital Key is one of the first services in the automotive industry to support cross-platform compatibility for contactless sharing of digital key capabilities between smartphones. For the first time ever, users will be able to share their digital keys between iOS and Android-based smartphones on selected devices.
Launched on the new enhanced 2024 G70 sport sedan, Digital Key will be available on other models soon.
1 In order to take full advantage of the app, please ensure you are running iOS 14 or newer or Android 12 or newer on your compatible smartphone. Minimum operating system requirements are subject to change at any time.
